Touring Hints:

I've been perusing the 'booking a tour' book I borrowed from Murielle and want to share some useful stuff.

Here's a sequence of good opening lines:

"Hello, I would like to speak with the person coordinating the bookings for shows.  May I have their name and direct line?  Let me make sure I have the correct spelling.  When is the best time to reach them?"

Your opening line to the booker:

"Hello, I'm Ben Conoley and I represent Pimp Tea, a hip-hop act from Fredericton.  We are setting up a CD release tour in late August for Atlantic Canada.  We would like to include a date in ______________."

A list of questions you should consider when booking gigs:

- What kind of in-house sound system do you have?

- Does your sound guy have experience with hip-hop?

- Can you provide turntables?

- What kind of crowd do you usually get out on that night?

- What is your cover charge pricing policy?

- find out how we will be paid.  (portion of the door?)

Make sure you find out if they can provide:

  - sturdy table for turntables;

  - 3 microphones;

  - CD player (for instrumental CDS)

Things to mention:

  - we plan on having a local hip-hop act perform with us.

  - CD release Tour.

  - We can send a press kit, promo materials and a generic tour poster.
