ROMEO MUST DIE SOUNDTRACK
VARIOUS ARTISTS
Blackground/Virgin Records
Ranking 7.75/10

The soundtrack for the action-packed movie, 'Romeo Must Die', provides a feel similar to the movie. The album boasts numerous R&B acts along with several hip hop tracks. Timbaland and Aaliyah find themselves at the helm as executive producers of the 'Romeo Must Die' soundtrack. Fortunately their six contributed tracks are for the most part blazing. Apart from this duo, the album features only a few more songs that prevail above the norm.

All in all, the album houses 18 tracks with an infantry of artists including, Aaliyah, DMX, Timbaland & Magoo, Ginuwine, Destiny's Child, Joe, Mack 10, BG, Dave Hollister, Playa and Chante Moore. However, it's the production cast that reigns supreme: Timbaland with 4 of the dopest tracks on the album, J-Dub, Ant Banks, Mannie Fresh, Little Rob & Irv Gotti, and Rapture & E Seats.

Timbaland's production shines with Ginuwine's "Simply Irresistible". This track has the making of a smash hit. The feel-good beat weaves perfectly around Ginuwine's R&B smooth lyrics. This is the ultimate bump-n-grind track of the summer. Timbaland also lays down amazing beats on Aaliyah's "Try Again", and "Are You Feelin Me?," and hooks up with Magoo for their own track, "We At It Again." All three of these tracks are hot. "Try Again" is the soundtracks first single and has all the makings of past Aaliyah hits similar to "Are You That Somebody" and "Hot Like Fire." Timbaland & Magoo's "We At It Again" deserves the most appropriate song title. They're definitely at it again, Magoo is the link that make the duo sizzle. Other impressive songs include Non-A-Miss' "Revival", Destiny Child's "Perfect Man" and Aaliyah's "Come Back In One Piece" which features DMX.

Overall this album was impressive, but not amazing. It's nice to see Timbaland back in tip top shape after his weak sophomore album, 'Life From Da Bassment.' The 'Romeo Must Die' soundtrack certainly sports some great songs, but split is pretty even between the good and the weak. I would pick this album up just for the great songs, and with 18 tracks, it provides diversity. If you've been feeling Timbaland's or Aaliyah's style, then this album is a must get. However, if you're looking for hardcore rap, then this album is a no go. I enjoyed this album, but it could have been better.
