SECTION 8
MC EIHT
Hoo Bangin/Priority/Virgin Records
Ranking 5/10

MC Eiht has been known more for his role as a featured artist as of late. He threw his thing down on Cypress Hill's amazing "Prelude To A Come Up" and raised a little hype about his switch to Mack 10's record label: 'Hoo Bangin Records.' This being his first album release on his new record label, many eyes will probably take notice.

Unfortunately MC Eiht doesn't fit the role as an album artist and should stick it out as an artist featured on songs. His lyrics rarely catch my attention and the beats were about average. "My Life" had catchy female vocals in the background for the chorus as MC Eiht throws down "My life, my life, my life". It proves to be a pretty catchy song. "Strawberriez-N-Cream" has a definite old skool feel. It borders on an LBC style with a summertime type beat and chorus. "Me And My Bitch" might have the same title as Notorious B.I.G.'s amazing tale, but it doesn't come close to comparing. Nonetheless, it's got some great lines, and it has a hook that accompanies the chorus and only gets used 3-4 times, but the hook is da bomb. Eiht even pulls in gangsta rap's notorious Mack 10 and Ice Cube for a colaboration on "Ill Tha Hood Way." It's only a slightly above average song.

MC Eiht could have used a little effort in making this album. It reaks of weakness. Nonetheless his experience as a featured artist allows him to salvage what could have been a disaster into an average album. This is a hardcore gangsta rap album. If you feel the gangsta style then pick this album up, but it'll probably never make your list as an amazing album. Otherwise, don't bother buying it.
